Why is my dog going to the bathroom indoors?
I just bought a 6 yr old dog from the pound. He is a mutt and well trained to to tricks. After a month he is suddenly going to the bathroom inside, and he refuses to go outside whe we ask him to. Any ideas why?

Props to you for adopting. Could be a number of things. He might be sick, or might be angry!! If it kept up, I would call the vet or make a visit. Is it cold outside? He could not like the cold! purplepaws121
First of all, don’t ask. Tell him when he’s going outside. You have to be assertive and don’t take no for an answer.
He’s probably settled in and is challenging the rules you have set down. My puppy is starting to do the same thing, at about the same time since adoption. She gets a firm shove on the butt out into the yard when necessary.
Make sure that you thoroughly clean where he potties inside. No scent must remain! Michelle F.

You need to train him and reward him when he goes outside upallnight
Once he had his first accident, he is afraid to not be consistent. Maybe there is something in the yard that he is scared of. Just take him for FREQUENT walks, and let him get the hang of outside. No dog can resist a tree. My dog wouldn’t pee unless she had grass, no matter how small a patch. He’ll break the bad habit, for sure. The more you walk him, the sooner it will be. I promise. Pia
