Why do the mirrors in the bathroom become foggy when taking a shower? And why do they become unfoggy when you open a window?

because air condenses and moisture gets attached to the mirrors. then when you open a window the moisture gets sucked away by the dry air that comes from outside error2_name_aready_in_use

lol wow, its called condensation and when you open the door the steam in the bath room evaporates Brian S

hahaha from heat vapor…just like the steam that comes from a pot when ur cooking!!! when the vapor molecules hit glass or in this case a mirror they stick..hahahha where do u think it came from? milty12345

  5. Rosebudd says:

the hot water turns to steam and vaporizes. the surface of the mirror is cooler than the ambient air and the vapor condenses on the glass. when the window is opened, it changes the temperature and the water is unable to vaporize. Rosebudd

in reality everything innthe bathroom become “foggy” . the mirror only shows it..if you check the walls and ceiling they are wet too.
the temp difference of the air and the surfaces causes the reaction “condinsation”
having a good exhust fan installled will correct this problem MonMon

Hot water from the shower quickly heats the air in the room.
Hot air is able to hold more water in it than cold air (humidity). In addition the spray of the shower means more hot water is in contact with the air, so it’s water content of the air goes up much quicker than say a hot bath.

Glass does not heat up nearly as quickly as air (or even paint or walls) since it is much more dense. When the warm air in the room comes into contact with the mirror, it cools (fairly quickly). The cooler air cannot hold as much water so it quickly condenses forming water droplets.

Try breathing on a mirror. The warm air from your lungs is moist and has a high water content. When the warm air reaches the mirror it cools quickly and the water condenses also. bw022

they become foggy as the feel shy while u having bath and unfoggy as the windows are open as air passes through. khyati2007

The mirrors are cooler than the steam so tiny droplets of water condense on them. When you open a door all the steam goes out and the tiny droplets evaporate. GobyDude
