Is it okay to keep a parakeet in the bathroom?
We have had our bird for several years and need to move him to a new location. The bathroom would be a nice solution because it is easy to keep clean and he would get a lot of visitors. There is also a window he can look out of. But is a bathroom’s humidity a problem for the bird? This is where we have our shower.

The humidity would be a problem. It would also encourage mold to grow in his cage. Nicole M
i don’t think it is a good idea. humidity and mold would definately be an issue and could cause him respiratory problems. also, birds should be kept in a place where they can see and can interact with their people regularly and consitantly throughout the day. unless you are in there all the time placing him in the bathroom is only one step above placing him in a closet. he will be isolated and lonely. erin
I don’t think its a good idea because when you take a shower it might steam up and it will cause a bad humidity.
Good Luck Finding A New Location:) upjumpy460
hmm
the bathroom is a great place for a bird
but the humidity is really bad for it because the parakeet will have trouble breathing
what i would do is , when ever you take a shower simlpy put him somewhere else until its stops feeling muggy
(i would put him on some kind of table)
but there is one thing ill warn you about putting a bird of any kind in the bathroom….
ECHO!!!
everything he does will be echoed and loud
^x^;;
so i personally wouldnt put him there
(mine is in my room by the window with a mirror behind him)
but if you can handle the noise then great
oh, and one more thing
if you(or someone else that goes in that bathroom)
is a girl you cant put him there because,
if they spray perfume or hairspray ,ect then a dead bird you will have
T~T
but other than that a bathroom is fine!
good luck with your keet Jamie
Your bird would get lonely in there. Birds do like a mist like from shower moisture, however it will increase the growth of mildew etc if you don’t clean the cage properly. You could take your bird in there when you shower for brief spells then bring him back out for the moisture to dry, but I wouldn’t leave him in there. Patty W
No,its not the ideal place at all. Temperatures in a bathroom can fluctuate which is bad for your bird, the humidity can also cause a problem! There are many reasons why a bathroom is unsuitable for a bird…if you apply a little thought… Karen
Leave the window and the shower door open for thirty minutes or so after you take a shower. Also take his cage out when you are cleaning the toilet. The spray that you are using to disinfect could harm your bird. Also no spraying are fresheners for that could harm your bird too. Of course since Frebreeze is reccomended by Iam’s for being pet safe I think it could be reletivly harmless. Jordan S.
I wouldn’t put him there because he wouldn’t get a lot of scoial time adn if he did get out of the cage then there are way too many hazards. Alos this is where many poeple use perfumes, bruth their teeth, deoderants, hair sprays, etc all of which can be harmful. Not to mention all the cleaning products! The humidity would be fine but I would advise that you put the bird somewhere else. Bathrooms and kitchens are the worse place you can put a bird. conure_chick
I don’t think it’s a good idea. There wouldn’t be ideal because a bathroom is such a small area. I keep them outside when its hot. When it gets cold and at night I keep them inside. When I keep them inside, I keep them by my backyard door so thye can see outside. Okay, so good luck finding a new location. Golden Cockatiel
No matter how clean it will be, or how often “visited”, it will still be lonely. Remember, “Out of sight, Out of mind. If it becomes necessary, I suggest you leave the door open when you can for more interaction with the family. Also if it is a cold bathroom and/or doesn’t have sunlight I suggest a heat lamp with a UVB bulb. If the reason is a renovation on the public parts of the house or new furniture or carpeting (both of which emit toxic fumes) I suggest an out of the house solution. All humidity aside, it is an O.K. short-term solution. If, however, he has become a nuisance to the family and they just want him shuttled off, I suggest holding your ground to ensure him the stability of a familiar environment.
Actually, I changed my mind, I recognised that I was trying to justify a bad situation and “make it work”. I advise against putting your bird in the bathroom. There are several better solutions. Renee N
why the bathroom. it will have to see ur butt every single day why will u do that to a small creature.i think a bag tied under it’s cage is the best and u can putt it any where dear maxi
