How do I train my Chihuahua to go to the bathroom outside?

My 4 month old Chihuahua is always going to the bathroom in the house. We tried giving him treats but then he would jut pretend to go to the bathroom to get the treats. I try to take him out every 2 hours, but when I bring him back in, he goes. He holds it in through the night, and i have him trained to go first thing in the morning, but for the rest of the day he isn’t trained. Can somebody please help me!!!!

how long do you walk him for? dogs need to be walked twice a day for 20-30 minutes each time. try playing fetch with him after the long walk to keep him digestive system moving. he has to go sometime and if he’s does need a place to go inside you will have to designate a spot for him using wee wee pads. but that is only a temporary fix until he gets used to his twice a day routine going outside. Haven’t you ever seen the movie Bruce Almighty? Make him use the toilet. Both cats and dogs are very trainable at that age as long as you guide them (dogs especially) with a firm hand. Of course, in the movie, Jim Carrey gets the dog to use the toilet using God’s powers. But you’ll need weeks or even months of toilet training before it’ll be a sure thing. Brian H
I have a 7 month old chihuahua…apparently this is a common problem with them. Basically, they are just very difficult to train. You have to take them out every 20 minutes and they’ll still go in the house once in a while. I talked to one owner that told us it took him a year and a half and that the dog was almost 2. We got ours a belly band…it does no good to train them, but it helps with the clean ups. zebj25
