bathroom
Cara asked:

They are 2 year old long haired chihuahas. They normally go to the door when they need to go to the bathroom so Ill let them outside to do their business. But every now and then they STILL go to the bathroom in my house and I never catch them in the act so I cant punish them. After 2 freakin years they shouldnt be going in the house any more. What else can I do considering they are not puppies any more and may be harder to train?
Both my dogs are male and they have been fixed, over a year ago.

Try praising them everytime they do it outside and give them their favorite dog treat. Works for my dog. ruthiecrue2

Are your dogs male or female? The reason I ask my male unfixed chi dog was wetting all over my home. He was broke to out side and inside on potty paper. I got him fixed and it ended the wetting on my carpet and floor. He now only goes to his paper or out side. You also have to get the smell out of the carpet. To do that mix vinager and dish soap in water and clean carpet and mop tile floors with vinager and dish soap and water . If you do not get out the smell the dogs will keep going where they smell the urine. Hope this helps. Mason’s Mom

I have a female chi and she still has problems, too. However, she is getting better (at two & a half).

After you get the pee smell out of the carpet, close the doors of bedrooms and bathrooms and any other rooms that you can logically keep them out of. When you do see a spot that you didn’t catch them actually doing, lay them down on their backs (one at a time) and say “bad piddle” or whatever word you use for the pee and poop. While they are on their backs, put their nose close to it, repeat the bad phrase, move them a little away, and then clean the spot. They don’t like the vinegar or cleaner smells, so they really don’t want to stick around while your cleaning. Of course, don’t have them too close so that the cleaner would hurt them. You’ll have to repeat this with both dogs since you don’t know who did what.

Now establish a place (like in the laundry room) where they can have a peepee pad to use at night or when you are out if they aren’t crate trained. Reward them with a treat anytime you find it used and say, “good piddle!” or whatever.

When they ask to go out, give them treats and praise afterwards.

Little dogs have a different perception of territory than big dogs, hence the house-breaking problems. We just have to stay patient and consistent. Make a plan that everyone in the family can follow and stick to it! :) Martha

The best thing a dog owner can do is buy 3 books one

    1) on vet med
    2) on training
    3) on the breed you have

    This is your best help.
You will get a lot of wrong answers here-but some are good pitbull man
