My one dog always leaves the room where I am at and goes to the bathroom. I know the best think to do is to correct it by catching him in the act. However I can’t follow him everywhere every time he leaves the room. Its a 2 story house. Is the best thing to do to keep a baby gate to prevent him from going into other rooms so I can keep an eye on him? and than eventually after he learns to go to the bathroom outside than he will stop doing it in the house?
Im not in the bedroom when he leaves. I am in the living room and not every room has a door to help keep him out.
I want him to learn to go to the bathroom outside.

My 4 month old Chihuahua is always going to the bathroom in the house. We tried giving him treats but then he would jut pretend to go to the bathroom to get the treats. I try to take him out every 2 hours, but when I bring him back in, he goes. I have a Miniature Schnauzer who is just a shade over 4 months old. Up until today when I took him outside he has been going to the bathroom and been ready to come in soon after that. Well today when I take him outside to go to the bathroom all that he wants to do is run around the yard and play. He has not exhibited this behavior until now. What can I do to get him to go to the bathroom while he is outside? I have gone out with him 3 times so far and all he has wanted to do is play.

They are 2 year old long haired chihuahas. They normally go to the door when they need to go to the bathroom so Ill let them outside to do their business. But every now and then they STILL go to the bathroom in my house and I never catch them in the act so I cant punish them. After 2 freakin years they shouldnt be going in the house any more. What else can I do considering they are not puppies any more and may be harder to train?

I have a 4 month old puppy. I work from home, so I’m able to watch her all day. She learned to sit at the door when she needs to go to the bathroom, which is great. However, she needs to go so frequently! She sits at the door at least every hour. How can I get her to hold it longer? She’s fine at night and can sleep in her crate for 8 hours without going to the bathroom, but I’d like her to hold it longer during the day.

I’ve tried crating her while I’m home, but she cried for 2 hours nonstop yesterday. It’s difficult for me to leave the house, since all of my work is here.
